Most parents know how important it is for their children to learn how to read, but over fifty years ago, the Supreme Court of the United States of America ruled that public schools could not use the Bible as part of the education process. The one book that can make all of the difference and the public schools are not allowed to use it.
However, we can! Lutheran schools across the country and the schools in The Lutheran School Partnership use this one book every school day. I personally did not attend a Lutheran school and for those of you that know me, that probably explains a lot.
However, my wife and I made the wise choice of educating our three children at St. Peter’s Lutheran grade school and Concordia Lutheran High School. Schools that teach that the Scriptures are God’s inspired word- the “Holy” Scriptures. Schools where creation is taught. Schools where the Ten Commandments are taught. As Martin Luther states: “I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount.”
What TLSP does well is to help our grade schools and high school work together, collaborate on best practices, and teach the Scriptures.
Please remember how important it is to keep Lutheran education affordable for everyone. Support our schools through special events like auctions, growing our school endowments and the SGO program for scholarships (https://www.lutheransgo.org/).
Encourage and thank our wonderful teachers and administrative staff. Reach out to our state representatives and thank them for supporting School Choice. Again, to quote Luther: “When schools flourish, all flourishes.” Let us all work to help our schools flourish.
When you hear our Lutheran grade schools, Concordia Lutheran High School, or The Lutheran School Partnership talk about the importance of a “Christ-centered” education, remember that Christ is the Word. It really is all about one book.
