On Wednesday, March 20, the Indiana Senate Education Committee heard testimony on House Bill 1003, which calls for a number of family-friendly improvements to Indiana's Choice Scholarships (vouchers) program. Some of those improvements to the voucher program include:Kindergarten voucher access.Voucher recipient's siblings' voucher access.Increased access for foster children, military families, and students with special needs.Increasing the elementary $4,500 voucher amount cap.Creation of a preschool scholarship tax credit. The voucher program and these proposed improvements in HB1003 are extremely important to parents seeking a high-quality, Christ-centered Lutheran school education for their children. If HB1003 passes out of Senate Education Committee, it will go to one of the budget committees—either Tax and Fiscal Policy or Appropriations. If passed there, HB1003 will go to the full Senate. Opponents of the legislation will be engaged, so it's essential that we be heard, too. Please join the Indiana Non-Public Education Association and The Lutheran Schools Partnership as an advocate of expanding the voucher program.
