I have been doing a great deal of reading in the last couple of months. And watching webinars. And reading materials from webinars. And I know it isn’t over yet.
When COVID restrictions first hit our area, I spent all of my time reading and watching to create our TLSP Best Practices in Fundraising in the New (Hopefully Temporary) Reality sheet for our schools. In the following weeks, I continued to update the document as needed and even created a presentation for groups and meetings.
For those of you that do not want to read all 11 pages (who wouldn’t want to?), allow me to boil down my treatise to 3 points:
- People don’t give unless they are asked. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t try (thanks Wayne Gretzky).
- Keep moving forward. It is better to be imperfect and try something than to do nothing or cut what you’ve been doing.
- People are naturally inclined to give. It's American. It's Christian. It's human. Give people a reason to give.
Finding ways to successfully connect with donors is just one way that TLSP will continue to Lead, Champion, and Collaborate. I don’t mind getting “Zoom eyes” or carpal tunnel if it helps the leadership of our 19 schools pivot and succeed.
