Everything I Learned about Fundraising During COVID-19

I have been doing a great deal of reading in the last couple of months. And watching webinars. And reading materials from webinars. And I know it isn’t over yet.

When COVID restrictions first hit our area, I spent all of my time reading and watching to create our TLSP Best Practices in Fundraising in the New (Hopefully Temporary) Reality sheet for our schools. In the following weeks, I continued to update the document as needed and even created a presentation for groups and meetings.

For those of you that do not want to read all 11 pages (who wouldn’t want to?), allow me to boil down my treatise to 3 points:

  1. People don’t give unless they are asked. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t try (thanks Wayne Gretzky).
  2. Keep moving forward. It is better to be imperfect and try something than to do nothing or cut what you’ve been doing.
  3. People are naturally inclined to give. It's American. It's Christian. It's human. Give people a reason to give.

Finding ways to successfully connect with donors is just one way that TLSP will continue to Lead, Champion, and Collaborate. I don’t mind getting “Zoom eyes” or carpal tunnel if it helps the leadership of our 19 schools pivot and succeed.
