Sometimes Silence is NOT Golden

Posted on May 17, 2021 by Mark Muehl - Funding the Mission - Quality Education

Remember the old adage, “Silence is golden?” As a youngster sitting at the adult table, being silent was always good guidance. Many wise statements and some very passionate speeches were heard at the dinner table. Having one closed mouth and two listening ears had me listening to Papa expounding about the tough times during the Depression and Grandpa preaching on the political unrest of the day.

Silence can be a coveted experience as it relates to quiet, peace, and solitude. With so much noise in politics and in social media, some quiet time is precious. But silence as it relates to defending a position or voicing a concern? That’s troubling.

Silence is not golden when it comes to the Gospel and silence is not good when sharing about the need for Lutheran schools. You and I need to be strong in our voiced support of Lutheran schools and the treasure of sharing Jesus that occurs through those schools. In a time like today, the uniqueness of an educational experience enveloped with the mercy shown in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is counter to the uncertainty of radical thought and practice. Jesus provides a peace and solitude that is filled with confidence and strength.

This past year has demonstrated again how Lutheran education uniquely supports parents in their endeavor to educate their kids. This past year has demonstrated the dedication of principals and teachers to put kids and Christ ahead of their own needs and desires. This past year has shown how God moves among us to provide all we need as we remain faithful to him This past year has demonstrated how TLSP eagerly steps up to help schools share Jesus- even to do this during challenging times.

As this school year comes to an end, please accept this nudge to support Lutheran schools and the unique ministry of The Lutheran School Partnership. Many of you supported the region’s Teacher Appreciation recognition. You no doubt have been praying for all involved in our churches and schools. You may have already contributed to your school’s annual fundraiser- congrats to the schools who have had their very successful events AND for those events still scheduled. You may have donated to The Lutheran SGO of Indiana. And to all those possibilities- THANK YOU! But this nudge is still for you.

This nudge is for anyone reading this correspondence. God has uniquely gifted you. Your financial support will be an encouragement for your Lutheran school and for The Lutheran School Partnership. We treasure your partnership. We are warmed by your gifts. Kids and their families are blessed by you and your support.

Make yourself known. Help share the precious message of our crucified and risen Savior.

Peace and joy to you!
