LSAA Season Ending Tournament

Concordia Lutheran High School was the the site for the annual Lutheran Schools Athletic Association (LSAA) Basketball Championship Weekend. It was a fun-filled, exciting basketball weekend for both the Girls and Boys Final Four teams.

The Girls Final Four started the weekend off on Saturday morning with Central taking on Holy Cross. It was a defensive battle which Central won 13 - 12 with a late bucket. In the second game, St Peter’s took on Wyneken. St Peter’s took control early and finished with a 29 - 20 win to secure their spot in the Championship Game.

The Boys Final Four started off with St Paul’s playing Holy Cross. St Paul’s shot lights out from 3 point range and ended with a 56 - 45 victory. The second game had Emmanuel-St Michael taking on Concordia. Emmanuel-St Michael got out to a quick start and never look back, defeating Concordia 50 - 21.

Sunday afternoon included another great day of basketball beginning with the Girls and Boys 3rd place games.

On the Girls side, Wyneken played Holy Cross in the first game of the day. It was a back and forth game, which Wyneken taking control in the 2nd half for a 23 - 16 victory. Lanie French led Wyneken with 10 points.

The Boys 3rd Place game was the second game of the day as Holy Cross took on Concordia. Holy Cross had a strong 2nd quarter to take the lead into halftime and carried that momentum into the 2nd half and ended with a 39 - 20 victory. Holy Cross was led by Grant Allman with 14 points and Michael Bean with 13.

The Girls Championship Game pitted the St Peter’s Wildcats vs the Central Chargers. It was a back and forth game that could not be decided in regulation - It took overtime to crown the LSAA Champion. The Wildcats outscored the Chargers in OT 6 - 0 to win the 2022 Girls LSAA Champion Game 28 - 22. St Peter’s was led by the duo of Tori Crozier and Alivia Bolinger with 9 and 13 points respectively.

On the Boys side, it was two familiar teams in the LSAA Championship, as the Emmanuel-St Michael Eagles played the St Paul’s Bears for the 2nd year in a row. The Eagles used their size advantage to take control of the game early and never looked back, claiming the 2022 Boys LSAA Championship with a 55 - 29 victory. The Eagles were led by their big man, Eli Merkler, with 24 points.

The LSAA will have 5 Girls Teams and 4 Boys Teams competing in the ILSAA State Basketball Tournament, which will be held February 25-27 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Brackets for the State Tournament will be released the week of February 14, 2022 at www.ilsaa.org.
